"From Sunday Times bestselling author Lesley-Ann Jones comes the definitive biography of Christine McVie, the quintessentially English rock star who was the backbone and beating heart of Fleetwood Mac. This is a story of scandalous affairs, public divorce, addiction, and fiery passion, all of which bled into her iconic songwriting.
Christine McVie—born Christine Perfect—was the constant force that held Fleetwood Mac together through its many incarnations. As a member of the classic line-up with Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, and John McVie, she wrote and performed many of their greatest hits. While the band was famous for its occasionally life-threateningly decadent lifestyle, Christine was the strong, steady figure they affectionately called "the mother." It was she who contained the flock, regrouped them when they went AWOL, focused their talents, and always got them back on track.
Yet, as the "engine" of the band during the Rumours era, Christine's personal life was every bit as tempestuous as her bandmates'. The album unwittingly charted the complete romantic disintegration within the band, and Christine’s own journey through affairs, divorce, and addiction provided the raw emotion for her now-iconic songs.
Told by an author who was friends with Christine, and with new contributions from those who knew her best, Songbird offers a true insider’s view and deep psychological insight into Christine as both a woman and a musician. This is the first, the only, and the ultimate picture of a rock legend and a national treasure."

I've been a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac since the early 80s and have seen them live a few times too. This book was really interesting and I very much enjoyed reading it. The book covers a lot of facts on Christine McVie's early life (where she lived, what her parents did, her schools etc) as well as lots on the early history of Fleetwood Mac/The Blues. It's not really based on lots of interviews with friends and family etc, but knowing the context and timelines of the songs etc is really good I think. It comes across that the author is not a big fan of Stevie Nicks...which is intriguing. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in Fleetwood Mac and their key role the history of the music over the past 50 years.
